A Prayer for this Election Day 2

My prayer for this election day…

“Lord, make me an instrument of Your peace.

Where there is hatred for the candidates, let me sow love;

Where there is injury from words and accusations, pardon;

Where there is doubt about a fair election, faith;

Where there is despair for our country, hope;

Where there is darkness in our fears, light;

Where there is sadness about our future, joy in You.

O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek

To be consoled by our rightness as to console others’ pain,

To have our positions understood as to understand the other side,

To be loved by the like-minded as to love those different than us;

For it is in giving all a voice that we receive the blessings of democracy;

It is in pardoning those who insulted us that we are pardoned;

It is in dying to self and serving others that we are born toward a nation of liberty and justice for all.”

by Michael Cheuk, a variation on a prayer attributed to St. Francis of Assisi

    This is so perfect. May I use it sometime, giving credit to you and St. Francis, of course. While there was so much contention, worry, and fear during this election, I was at peace because I know the Lord is in charge no matter what.
