About

I help leaders bring their best selves to their work

in order to bless their organizations, their communities, and the world.

I’m a leadership coach with an Associate Certified Coach credential with the International Coaching Federation, and a Christian Leadership Coach credential from Coach Approach Ministries

I am trained in process consulting through The Center for Congregational Health. I work with congregations, organizations, non-profits, and their leaders in the areas of strategic planning, team and board development, and conflict resolution.

I am an Accredited Heartstyles associate to administer, interpret, and lead workshops on the Heartstyles Indicator and coaching.

I am also an accredited facilitator for Prepare-Enrich to provide pre-marital and marital coaching.

I am a founding member of the Charlottesville Clergy Collective, an interfaith group of clergy and interested lay persons working to address racial justice and equity in the Charlottesville and Albemarle region of Virginia.

I am an Assistant Director of Beloved Community Cville, a non-profit dedicated to working for social change and equity within the Charlottesville area.

I’m a team member of Integer Network, a global network of coaches that offers a range of coaching services to help people live and work with greater  authenticity, connection and wholeness.

My Personal Life

I’ve been married for over 30 years to my best friend, Beth, and we have two young adult age children.

My hobbies include reading, photography, singing, cooking, and tinkering with computers.

I’m an introvert, and my quirk is that I’m very comfortable with silence. Years ago, I had a congregant who came to my office “to talk,” and we ended up sitting in silence for about 30 minutes straight as they pondered over a question I posed. This person and I are still in communication to this day!

People who have worked with me often describe me as a:

  • “Rock” who is reliable and someone you can count on.
  • Caregiver who is supportive, loving, and empathetic.
  • Truth-teller who is honest, sincere and trustworthy.

They also identified these as my top three leadership qualities:

  • Relatable – someone who connects different constituencies to build mutual trust and respect.
  • Inspiring – someone who activates, nurtures, empowers, and develop others.
  • Clear Communicator – someone who listens, speaks, and presents well.*

I’m a Lifelong Learner

I hold degrees from Rice University (BA), Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (MDiv), and the University of Virginia (PhD).

I have also studied and practiced Bowen family systems theory, Marshall Rosenberg’s Non-Violent Communication, and in the work of Frederic Laloux in reinventing organizations, all for the purpose of making a collective impact in my community, especially in the area of social justice and racial equity.

I’m interested in how these practices affect behavior and functioning in healthy organizations, thriving businesses, and just societies. What I’ve learned in these areas informs and shapes my work as a leadership coach, a process consultant and facilitator, and as a speaker/preacher.

Finally, I strive to live by this quote by Frederic Laloux:

“The ultimate goal in life is not to be successful or loved, but to become the truest expression of ourselves, to live into authentic selfhood, to honor our birthright gifts and callings, and be of service to humanity and our world.”
